We have been talking about persuasive writing in class recently and what it means to try and persuade someone to believe your side of a particular debate or argument. For example, if I make the statement, "All 4th graders should have to go to summer school before they can move to 5th grade", you might disagree with me. However, just like we talked about in class, just disagreeing with someone won't change their mind. You need to be able to make strong arguments that clearly explain why you feel a certain way. Your assignment today is to make a good argument either supporting or disagreeing with the following statement: "Students should be required to eat a green vegetable at lunch everyday when they are in school".
Remember, just saying "NO, I don't think that is right" does not make a good argument. Tell me why you agree or disagree.
I am for it because green vegetables are healthy. Kids would always get some of the greens they need for the day.
ReplyDeleteSorry did a bad first one I am for it because it'll make everyone a little bit healthier in school and parents would love it. Vegetables are always a good snack. It's way better then candy-ish snacks
ReplyDeleteI think that is both a good and a bad statement. For the agree side, it is good because it helps promote student health. But it is bad because it doesn't let the students choose what kind of food they eat.
ReplyDeleteI am for it because if you eat a green vegetable at lunch then I would not just eat junk food(I eat greens).
ReplyDeleteLaura Lei No, I don't think that is right. 5-18-11
ReplyDeleteReason 1:The students will not go to school. The kids that don't like vegtables will act sick and not go to school. The kids will pretend to be hurt. the students will pretend there is a holiday.
Reason 2:This is a free country. The teachers can't tell us what to eat. The adults can't make the kids eat the vegetable. The teacher will never be our commander.
Reason 3:Some kids don't like green vegetables. There should be other health chooses such as fruit, meat, so on and so on.
I think students should be required to eat a green vegie at lunch each day at school. I thinks that is a good idea because vegies are good for you. I interviewed a lunch lady at school.
ReplyDeleteShe said "It's just getting us one step closer to a totally healthy lunch that gets children ready to learn. Greens can be delicious too if they're prepared in a different way than usual. Eating vegies has always been encouraged, but if it becomes required than many other schools may follow suit, making all children healthier."
I asked the school nurse if she thought that eating more vegies will lower the amount of patients she sees each day. She thought that the change wouldn't be big but it would still drop.
"That wouldn't matter though, what matters is that it will make them eat healthier and give them good habits. I think making it required is an excellent idea."
I also questioned a parent about it.
She said, "Why that's an excellent idea! I think it's preposterous that it didn't happen sooner! Teaching kids to eat healthy has been a goal for a long time and this is another way to do so."
i agree because.....
ReplyDeletereason1: kids need to be healthy by eating healthy
Reason2:the kids parents may not give them healthy foods at home so they need to eat there healthy fill at school every day
Reason3:so that when kids go back into class they will focus more because they have the right foods in them. If they have junk food they will be hyper and not focus.
disagree
ReplyDeletereason #1 disagree because kids might be allergic to a green vegetable.
reason #2 kids will have to be forced to eat it and kids will be mad at teachers and might misbehave.
reason #3 it might make a kid throw up in the cafeteria and the school lunch ladies will be mad because they have to clean it up.
I disagree, what if some students are allergic or maybe some students don't find the vegetable very appealing! I say we should not have to eat a green every day at school in the cafeteria, what if we brought our lunch. I bet our mothers of fathers or however made the lunch would not put a green vegetable in. We don't have to do eat a green vegetable. Ex: Sally is forced to eat her green beans. After the fact she swells up. She has to immediately and call her mom. Sally never returned to the school again. I say to heck with such stupid rules! We don't have to eat those dreadful pieces of food! They can't force us to do anything!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree that students should required to eat a green vegetable everyday at lunch. I agree because vegetables make you healthy and when you are healthy you are at school and if you eat unhealthy you get sick and miss school. I also agree because if you have students eat a vegetable everyday at school might give them good habits for later on in life. that is why I 100% agree.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should't have green vegetables at lunch every day. I think we shoud get the vitamins in fruit.
ReplyDeleteI think we should not have vegetables every day because we could also get the vitamins in our other food like ou main food. That is why i disagree.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should NOT have green vegetables because kids don't even eat the vegetables they give us during lunch today, they always throw it away why should we have ANOTHER green vegetable to throw away. It's just wasting food kids already get the vitamins we need when we eat fruit and the healthy foods that the cafeteria ladies give us! we should all give a big thank you to all the lunch ladies who work so hard everyday. So no more vegetables we know the kids won't eat it this is my catch sentance for discussion question#4: "why pay more when you can SAVE more!"
