Discussion Question 12
Welcome back! We have been reading Roald Dahl's "The Witches" in class, and the story is really heating up! Your assignment this week is to tell me what you would do differently from the boy if a witch lived in your neighborhood. How would you spot her? What actions would you take to make sure that no witch ever captured you or anyone else in your neighborhood? I am curious to see how you plan to tackle this question, because I know many of you believe that you could handle a witch by yourself no problem. Consider everything you know about witches and try to come up with a clever plan of how to defeat them.
My plan to defeat them is to get some kids in my school and walk into their house. I will tell them it is wrong and annoy them until they stop or shrivel up into a tiny speck of dirt.
ReplyDeleteI would spot the witch by just walking around the neighborhood.I would protect family & friends by getting some friends & setting up traps. I would make a dummy so it will look like a real person and see if the witch will fall for my trick & fall in my trap

ReplyDeletethe boy, i would hide, climb up in the tree, or get help from someone i know.
If a witch lived in my neighborhood I would try to destroy her. I would be able to spot her because she would be following me and trying to bribe me. To make sure she couldn't capture me, I would find her lair and steal her broom. Then I would fly away on her broom to a lava pit. The witch would follow me to the lava pit. She could not fly over the lava because I had her broom and she would melt.
ReplyDeletei would spot a witch by seeing a wierd woman stalking me every day and and i would see gloves on her hands.my actions to keep a witch away would staying inside of the time or warning everyone carfully.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a witch in my neighborhood I will stay in the house and avoid playing outside cause the witch can and bury you somewhere where nobody will ever dig.If the witch captures my neighbor I will report to the police and the witch is getting arrested.In the book "The Witches",In the book it says how you can tell if a normal person can really be a witch.How can you tell?that's easy just look for an ordinary person that has long black gloves.That's how you catch a witch.I'm warning those kids out there a witch can hunt you down when you are even with your parents.You don't know if it is your neighbor or your mom.
ReplyDeleteWell i think that if a witch captured me i would try to kick my way out of her arms and bite her if i have to and go to my parents and stay with them until the very next day. if a witch captured my friends or my neighbors i would locate where the witch was taking the child with an adult then stop her kick her bite her and i would have not taken a bath in weeks so i would smell like nothing (unlike those clean little children who take showers everyday who would easily be spotted or "sniffed"by a witch) i would have some more ideas but that would take forever and then this will be to long for poor Mr.Dickson to read and we wouldn't want that to happen now would we? that is why my answer is short for a paragraph but if squint really tight it kind of looks like a big paragraph (SORTA)

ReplyDeleteIf I had run into witch the characteristics I would look to see if she had a mischievous smile or trying to bribe me to go somewhere. Also if she was wearing gloves from her finger tips to her elbow. ( plus if I haven't seen her before). My plan if I catch a witch is to put her in a room where she can't get out and find a clever way to tell us how to get all the witches in your neighborhood. Then soak the witches in water like in the wizard of oz movie. If that doesn't work well we will get a pot of hot BOILING WATER. Before we do that we must study a witch so we can warn people about their traits. One more thing that we could do is get a doctor to get a witches DNA and blood plus what they might smell like and make a witch detector so if it seances that sent it will beep so you can capture a witch and put it in witch jail.

Then when the whitch comes i will use the killing curse (Avada Kadavra) and kill the whitch and live happely ever after until i was murdered by lord voldemort :(

ReplyDeleteI like this book because, it is really cool. I like how the witches are evil because everyone has a little evil in thier life. They have hideous faces. It's also awesome because they like turning kids into things that their parents might kill, like a mouse, a bug, or a type of bird during bird hunting season. I think I can defeat them with three legal guns that try to get their potion and magic. I would spy on them all I can, and tell everyone not to eat an of the food because it is poisoned by a witch. Then I would tell everyone to group up and kill them. I would put a wig on and get a mask that looks like a witches face and put a sock on that makes it look like I have no toes, and make the worst accent I can, for when I have to talk to them.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a witch in my neilghborhood I would look to see if she scraches her head a whole lot.Then roll around in the mud so she wouldn't smell me, board up the windows and doors with a silent drill when I see her inside so she won't escape. But, if she does escape, I will round up all the children, throw mud on them, and lead them to a hole in the ground coverd by a trapdoor that has grass on it.She can't destroy us because she can't find us.
ReplyDeleteI would find out who the which was by spying on my neighbors and trying to find out any evdience like a wand,spell books,a crystal ball,gloves,or a wig.Then when I found out who it was I would call a the police and tell them who it was.After I called the police I would call Harry Potter and Voldmore to destroy them with their deadly magic.
ReplyDeleteIf there was a witch in my neighbor hood i would look for the purple eyes then the gloves if i saw both i would run my life off to my neghbors house and tell them to get out of the house wile im there i will get a doll from there house and throw it at the grand high witch then i would hack the radio and tell everyone to get out of town there are witches.
ReplyDeleteI would spot her buy seeing if she has gloves on everyday,if she has fire in her eyes,if she always scratches her head,and finally if she always doing something with her feet.I would tell everyone to always be with someone so the witches can never do anything to those kids,and never get out of my house unless someone is with me.
ReplyDeleteWhat I would do differently from the boy in the story is that i would NOT start screaming GRANDMA!!!!!!!!!! I would just stay there like nothing was happening and keep on building my treehouse like nothing ever happened. I would spot a witch by watching her every move and writing down everything she could be planning to do and try and stop it by ruining her mail, and making her do things she doesn't know that she is doing but I do. It's almost as if like i'm a little witch too! :) <3
ReplyDeleteI would first my friend to make the witch come near set atrap on the tree above and when the with comes you let it down and when the witch i traped you call the police and the she goes to jail in a islan in the middle of nowhere.
ReplyDeleteI would spot a witch by seeing if she had gloves on because it said in the book that witches always where gloves and another way I would spot a witch is if they were scratching there hair because witches where wigs. I would deffinetely be more cautious when going out and about through my neighborhood. Hopefuly I will never get caught in the trouble of witchs but if I do I will be ready from reading the witchs.

ReplyDeleteYO! If a witch came in my neighborhood i wouldn't belive it because I thought they weren't real. But if they are I would tell my parents & what they do and what they look like. For example: They HATE children, they got blue spit, and no toes! OMG right! So I would find out what is in the mouse ingredient. Then turn her into a mouse & step on her till she is dead. Also just in case if she is faking I will chop her ur into little tiny pieces so small that you can barly see her or should I say any parts of her. So yeah that's how it's done, but if more come... That's a whole different disscusion question.
ReplyDeleteWitches are tricky. I would know one because they wear rainbow sweaters, pants and ballet flats so they don't stand out. Their teeth would be on the yellow side. Their hair will be short but worn in high pony tails tied with scrunchies. They will also wear a choker necklace with rainbows.
ReplyDeleteI would protect myself by wearing the color black. Witches hate the color black. I will also grab a hammer and smack their head so they fall to the ground and go get a parent. The parent could help me call the police. And the police will take the witch to a special cave to suck out her powers and make her normal.
If there was a witch in town, my plan to be a witched hunter.Firt I spy on her, after I find out where she is and the place where her next moving is and I will take sevral knives with me and hide near the place, then when she walks by I will ambush her and throw many knives on her.I think that throwing several knives to her will be a lot more safe than face to face with her. After she was killed I run away and tell the police that there is someone got killed.
ReplyDeleteIf I was in that type of situation I would stay by the grandmother at all times just to be safe. And if I was him I wouldn't just be wandering around the hotel because you never know all the ladies around you might be witches, just like when the boy got captured in a room full of witches behind a screen or curtain.
ReplyDeleteIf there is a witch in my neighborhood, I would tell everyone for thier safety because if every neighborhood is gone, there would be no one else to play with and talk to!
